Liquid Resistor Starter

Liquid Resistor Starter

ElectroDrives is proud to supply a full package solution for motor starting and speed control in wound rotor induction motors (WRIM). With more than 20 years of experience supplying Liquid Resistance Starters (LRS) worldwide for cement plants and concentrator plants (mining), ElectroDrives has integrated all the knowledge gained during this time into the latest LRS designs. Additionally, LRS are commonly included together with the SER Drives for seamless slip ring motor control from standstill to the complete operating speed range.

There are three standard types of LRS construction supplied by ElectroDrives depending on the application and special requirements:

  1. Knife-type steel electrodes. This is the simplest mechanism for motor starting suitable for applications up to 4,000kW with resistance ratio of 50:1.
  2. Ring-type stainless-steel electrodes. This is intended for more demanding applications with typical resistance ratio of 80:1, single or dual motor applications and with power ranges up to 8,000kW (per motor).
  3. Ring-type delta-shape bronze electrodes. For applications requiring a resistance ratio of 120:1 or higher and a perfect balance of rotor current between the 3-phases during starting. Single or dual motor applications with power ranges up to 10,000kW (per motor).
