Electrodrives presents at the Mill Circuits ’24 conference in Cape Town “FlexStarter: the evolution of mill drive systems, combining robustness with innovation.”

On June 13th and 14th, the Mill Circuits ’24 conference took place in Cape Town, organized by Minerals Engineering International (MEI), where Electrodrives participated with their presentation “FlexStarter: the evolution of mill drive systems, combining robustness with innovation.”

In this presentation, the key points of the incorporation of RotorProtek into FlexStarters liquid rheostats were detailed:

  • FlexStarter incorporates new features making it comparable to advanced VFD systems.
  • Closed-loop control in FlexStarter minimizes torque spikes during mill start-up.
  • FlexStarter offers locked-charge protection using RotorProtek for mill safety.
  • Real-time monitoring in FlexStarter supports predictive maintenance and operational insight.

This conference invited papers on new approaches to mineral processing circuits, whether through design, modeling, optimization, or operation. This included the integration of unit operations (e.g., comminution and flotation), novel flowsheets that incorporate new equipment, and approaches to optimizing circuit design. The event highlighted the participation of companies such as FLSmidth, Ausenco, Metso, Pfeiffer, and Loesche, among others.

The event concluded with a panel discussion titled “The Future Evolution of Mill Circuits,” in which experts from various companies and sectors shared their perspectives on emerging trends and future challenges in the field of mineral processing. Topics such as the incorporation of digital technologies, energy optimization, and the development of more efficient and sustainable equipment were discussed.

We would like to thank MEI for the excellent organization and all the participants of the conference.
